Design Story
At present, environment protection become one of the most issues that all human beings concern greatly. With the acceleration of urbanization, the city's organic system and earth resources, the interaction between the biosphere and also deepened and expanded. Buildings, factories, urban rubbish is overrunning habitat. When bears rummage among wastes, when raccoon jump between cement building, when tigers hang around roads, human should introspect ourselves while crying in fear. Based on the above consideration, we wish to use packaging to remind people that environment protection is not far from our daily life. For example, we can eat plant meat instead of real meat, especially refuse meat from wild animals. As a result, it will help to establish new city, which develops harmoniously with the environment. Also information from consulting companies tell us most people who are interest in functional food have environmental consciousness. Plant meat not only satisfy these people’s need for health and weight-loss, but also have common awareness in environment protection. In this way, products’ features are blending well with their packaging, which is our ideal pursuit.
Highlights
At the first look, there are one raccoon’s fearful eyes exposed from several buildings, by rugged pencil drawing. It looks like city and animals can be harmonious. The whole box is covered by a black paper cover. One would tear out black sheet of paper, which stands for buildings, if the box need to be open. In this way, there is a more terrified scenario: the raccoon actually is surrounded by various rubbish and trash from city. It means that the harmonious co-existence of city and wild animal is not real. Without the shield of complete Eco- system, raccoon and other wild animal can only become a rag-picker of the city, or even worse, become the victim of harmful wastes.

The box applies printing, matte varnishing and silver stamping techniques. The cover remains the original color and feelings of black paper, a kind of little coated art paper, which is also echoes to the graphic design. Inside box is lid and base structure. Only use printing with excellent color control system to represent the graphic design. In this way, there is no need to use extra decoration to improve its visual effect. Use silver stamping to emphasize product and brand name, so as to bring consumers a deeper impression.

What functional designs of the work have enhanced the user experience?
The graphic design of the gift box actually raises a question to consumer when they firstly see the box: how a wild animal can be co-exist with the cement buildings. One have to tear up all black sheet on which buildings are printed in order to open the gift box. The ‘tearing’ move stands for push down buildings, also meaning to remove artificial chains on ecology system. After tear up all buildings, the picture shows that the raccoon is surrounded by city trash and harmful rubbish. It also breaks the seemed- harmonious picture of the original picture leading consumer to think further.
Does the work consider sustainability (environmentally or commercially, or both)?
The black art paper and white cardboard attaching to gray board are FSC controlled paper. The paper manufacturer, wood pulp making factory all have FSC certificate, which means all manufacturing process is good for sustainability for forest operation. Also there are only printing, stamping and matte varnishing processes, without other flashy decoration techniques. It is also contributed some to decreasing CO2 emissions.
