Design Story

The concept of the gift box comes from the contemporary Internet living environment. In the reunion atmosphere of traditional festivals, relatives who are separated from different places use the Internet way of life to make up the space distance. Online shopping makes it more convenient to send gifts to distant relatives and friends, but at the same time, it also brings a further demand for the sense of ritual of gifts. And "Lantern Moon Project · Gift Box with the Moon" is designed for the following context. The gift box consists of two middle cylinders as the main storage structure, connected by a hinge structure between the two cylinders, and half a traditional paper lantern is stored between the two cylinders, and the lantern will be unfolded with the rotation of the two middle cylinders. Users can order one for their distant relatives and one for themselves. The concept of the half lantern lies in the sense of incompleteness caused by the separation from relatives, which corresponds to the full moon in the night sky.

Highlights

The lantern hidden in the structure and the entire package form an installation that can still be used as a festive decoration after the mooncake is removed. Structurally, the tops of the binoculars are connected with a hand rope, which acts as a handle in the closed state. After the lantern is unfolded, the rope can be used to hang the lantern. In the visual aspect of the gift box, the moon rabbit guards the lantern as the theme, using hot silver and special paper to create a festive atmosphere. The overall style is dominated by simple white to reflect the bright white moon on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival in the East.
