Design Story
Wu Liang Ye’s baijiu distillery dates back over 600 hundred years to the glorious Ming Dynasty. That same distillery is still responsible for creating the finest baijiu in China. We were given the opportunity to design a bespoke decanter and showcase, worthy of holding the most precious liquid in the Wu Liang Yu collection. The Ming Dynasty, flourished with celebratory bright hues and intricate ornate details became our source of inspiration that ultimately led us to creating a classic timeless design that exudes the luxury codes and imperial influences of the great dynasty. The decanter, following the iconic Wu Liang Ye drum-shape, is a statement of true luxury with every detail and gilded craft. We paid homage to the Ming dynasty with a bottle closure inspired by the Emperor’s crown. A ceramic centre, painted with intricate traditional pattern, was meticulously set between metallic components, reflecting the fine craft of the past in a modern way. Each decanter is presented in an outer case handmade in a rare wood (phoebe zhennan or金丝楠) traditionally found in Sichuan province, close to where the Wu Liang Ye distillery lies. Wu Liang Ye 501 Ming is truly an exquisite baijiu befitting of royalty.
Highlights
Wu Liang Ye 501 Ming is the most luxurious product in the massive Wu Liang Ye portfolio, and we found the perfect design approach to convey the story of such a precious liquid by bringing the opulence of the Ming royalty into the design for a baijiu distilled from the pits dating back to the great Ming dynasty.
