Design Story
Avient accumulated much experience in PET industry. We screened varieties of colorants for those can offer help to PET recycle stream. Besides, we combined those colorants with our latest reheat technology to generate “OPTICA™ Recycle Friendly Toners and Colors”. The combination will not only minimize the yellowing issue caused by the PET recycling stream but also lead to reduction of energy consumption and increase the bottle yield rate in PET bottle blowing stage. We managed to check the color variation especially on b value increase through melt injection. We found that the combined product had much lower b value increase after multi melt injection cycles.
Highlights
OPTICA™ Recycle Friendly Toners and Colours are a new range of products for use in PET preforms, bottles and rPET. They are formulated with heat stable raw materials and contain SmartHeat series helping to; • Reduce and mask yellowing • Improve the quality and performance of rPET • Reduce energy consumption The improved recycle performance helps to stabilise rPET colour and quality, supporting sustainability goals of increasing rPET content and reducing carbon footprint, driving the circular economy. Via this new concept, Avient would like to provide solutions to Brands not only helping them to maintain aesthetic of their PET container, protect their Brand image and attract the target consumer groups, the solution could allow the Brand to be sustainable and contribute to the circular economy.
