Design Story
This project stems from the brand's recognition of homogenization within the frozen dumpling category and current consumer demand for higher-quality food. By revisiting and clarifying its product positioning and upgrading its packaging visuals, it aims to establish the brand as a leading industry benchmark in the market competition.
This project's creative design begins by establishing the product architecture and core proposition. Subsequently, centered on the three dimensions of "culture, region, and craftsmanship," and guided by the design philosophy, "Behold the Elegance of the East, Unveil the Window to Chinese Gastronomy" it integrates traditional Chinese cuisine, culture, and aesthetics. It transforms the original product line into a premium series that carries historical depth, cultural significance, and emotional resonance, successfully driving the elevation of both product and brand value.
Highlights
The brand has distilled a pioneering product strategy and campaign slogan: “In pursuit of exquisite flavors from mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, and fields — delivering nature’s fine tastes to the Life.” This communicates an Eastern philosophy anchored in the harmony between humanity and nature, imbued with profound humanistic emotion. Within its category, it genuinely propels product competitiveness and communication impact through cultural legacy and masterful craftsmanship.
The product series named "China's Finest Dumplings" adopts the clerical script style from the Han Dynasty (202 BC–220 AD), the era when dumplings originated. The stroke ends are ingeniously integrated with the shape of dumplings, making "China's Finest Dumplings" not merely a product name but a cultural symbol representing traditional Chinese cuisine. The main visual symbol of this series is a window lattice design inspired by the traditional outline of crabapple blossoms, which not only showcases the unique charm of Eastern food culture but also carries auspicious meanings and blessings. In sales channels, the design demonstrates strong visual consistency, recognizability, and cultural depth, enabling it to stand out prominently among numerous similar products.
Transcending the common emphasis on “larger portions” and “more quantity,” “China’s Finest Dumplings” presents a new vision of premium cuisine. Close-up shots serve as “Eastern still lifes,” artistry highlighting quality and stimulating appetite. Through panoramic montage, each ingredient is paired with its natural origin—mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, fields—thereby inviting an imaginative journey to the source. This interplay of intimacy and scale delivers a richer experience, capturing the unique elegance of Eastern culinary culture.

Does the design solve the problems that are common across the product category? If so, please explain.
In a commoditized frozen dumpling aisle where packaging screams little more than flavor and price, "China's Finest Dumplings" introduces a soul. This redesign goes far beyond visuals—it's a cultural infusion. It begins with a powerful narrative: "From Our Lands to Your Table," connecting each dumpling to the "Mountains, Rivers, Lakes, Seas, and Fields" of China. This story is brought to life through elegant Han-dynasty calligraphy and traditional lattice patterns, elevating the everyday into an emotional experience. The "Eastern Still Life" photography artfully showcases ingredients against their native landscapes. This comprehensive approach doesn't just refresh a package; it reimagines the entire category, offering a blueprint for meaningful brand elevation.
What functional designs of the work have enhanced the user experience?
In the product presentation, a combination of ingredients and the final product highlights the raw materials, quality, and visual appeal. The background employs a "montage" narrative, pairing each ingredient with the corresponding landscape of "mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, and fields." This allows consumers to immediately understand the product while evoking natural and cultural associations, ultimately enhancing their purchasing experience.
Did the design help increase the sales performance of the product? If so, please give related evidence.
When competitors focus on "taste/price," the infusion of cultural value can create differentiated cognitive recognition, shifting consumers from "comparing prices" to "identifying with value." The design of "cultural symbols + emotional experience" can support higher pricing, attracting customers who prioritize quality and cultural connotation. The narrative of "mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, and fields" and the visual language of Eastern aesthetics are more likely to spark organic dissemination on social media, reducing marketing costs. Highly distinctive packaging can achieve "visual breakthrough" on shelves, stimulating impulse purchases.
Does the work consider sustainability (environmentally or commercially, or both)? If so, please explain.
"China's Finest Dumplings" demonstrates commercial sustainability through its packaging design, which integrates traditional aesthetic elements such as calligraphy and architecture. This approach pioneers a distinct cultural and aesthetic differentiation within a highly homogenized market. The product embodies the natural philosophy of "mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, and fields" and the craftsmanship heritage of "master artisans," evoking consumers' awareness of ecological protection and spiritual-cultural identity. This fosters an emotional connection that transcends mere functionality. With each sale and experience, the brand value is reinforced and solidified, allowing the wisdom of Chinese culinary culture to rejuvenate in contemporary life. Ultimately, this creates a virtuous cycle where commercial value and cultural heritage mutually sustain and enhance each other.
