Jung Eun Yang is a Seoul-based graphic designer and creative director who has run her design studio, SOMETHING WORD, for 13 years. She has worked across many areas of visual design, including brand identity, editorial design, packaging, posters, spatial graphics, and design for events and exhibitions. She served as an adjunct professor in the design departments of Ewha Womans University and Kookmin University for about 7 years, and her work has been recognized multiple times with global design awards such as the iF Design Award and the German Design Award.
The studio name SOMETHING WORD carries the meaning that “everything has its own inherent language and expresses and communicates through that language.” Based on this philosophy, the studio aims to create new experiences through visual language, focusing on forming “moments of experience” beyond simple visual results. She has a deep interest in various techniques and materials, and is particularly strong in integrating her own delicate illustration style and storytelling into her design work to build each brand’s unique world. Her design begins with understanding the essence of what is being created. She values defining the identity of a brand or project in a unique and clear way, combining strategic thinking with a refined visual language to create designs that are memorable and meaningful.
Make the product the main character, give it expressions and a setting, and hide a "tiny" bit of detail, then illustration can bring food to life. From HBAF nuts to SAJO’s 365.24 series, Korean designer Jung Eun captures brand personality through her human-touch illustration style. Within these cartoon figures, you can almost see the flavor, ingredients, even the making and eating process of the food itself.
